In 1998, Phil founded the Island of Ireland Peace Choir in the aftermath of a terrorist attack in Omagh, Northern Ireland which started a musical odyssey that has rippled out far and wide.
Over the past 25 years, both Phil and Elaine have combined their creative talents to lead the choir in concerts throughout Ireland and have traveled to Sri Lanka, Messines, Krakow in their promotion of peace through their music. Their monthly Taizé Vigil in Waterford which started out in 2004 continues to this day.
Phil and Elaine also work closely with the Dublin High Hopes Choir, a homeless choir encouraged to find their voice through music. They recently brought the unique message and sound of the High Hopes Choir to the European Parliament in Brussels and to the Electric Picnic Music Festival in Stradbally, Co. Laois.
In 1997, Phil was honored with the ‘Peace Person of the Year Award’ for his humanitarian work and for his contribution to peace and reconciliation on the island of Ireland along with American Ambassador to Ireland Jean Kennedy-Smith, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Prime Minister Tony Blair.
In recent years, Phil completed a PhD on a new vision of the Church in Ireland drawing his inspiration from communities on the margins in Latin America. Empowering people to take steps towards their own liberation is something Phil feels passionately about. Dr. Phil published his book… In the Hands of the People – A New Vision of Church in 2015.
