Cliffs of Moher from the sea
The Cliffs of Moher (Aillte an Mhothair) are one of Ireland’s most breathtaking natural attractions. And viewing them from a Cliffs of Moher boat tour offers a unique perspective you won’t find on land. Named after the ancient Gaelic word “Mhothair” (meaning ruined fort), these majestic cliffs rise to an impressive 214 meters (700 feet).
Doolin ferry sails right beneath this point just north of O’Brien’s Tower. The furthest point of the cliffs from Doolin is Hags Head in Liscannor. Here you can find the 1st century fort, Moher Tower, to which the Cliffs owe their name.
Their magnificent heights are best appreciated from sea level. The people walking along the cliffs trail above appear as tiny as ants!
Take in the wildlife, nature, and history of the stunning West of Ireland coastline. See Ireland’s largest sea bird colony at An Branán Mór (Sea Stack) and the sea cave used in filming ‘Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince’. You may even spot some puffins, dolphins, seals, or basking sharks
